What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is a way of learning how to direct our awareness to Life as it unfolds, moment by moment, with a sense of curiosity, openness and acceptance.
The tendency is for us to analyse, worry, fix and often try to change what is happening right now. With mindfulness we learn to respond more skilfully.
Research has shown that mindfulness practice improves the quality of our thoughts and memory and our ability to respond. We are able to think more clearly, and to feel more in control of our lives enabling us to feel less anxious and more calm.
The power is in the noticing.
We gradually learn through experience to direct our attention in a more focused way noticing whatever is happening in the present moment, without trying to change it; be that our breathing, the sensations in our body, our thoughts, and what we are feeling.
Mindfulness is now recommended by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence.
8-Week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
These 8 week courses have become the ‘gold standard’ mindfulness courses and are for anyone who wants to enhance their wellbeing, they are non religous and include simple meditation practices to develop your own home practice.
