Yoga for Wellbeing

Yoga in Sussex & Online

Yoga is for everyone – real people leading real lives

In our high speed, high pressure way of living, stress has become a major concern. It is one of the main reasons 70% of us are visiting the doctor with stress-related health problems such as:

  • Headaches
  • Depression
  • Insomnia
  • Asthma
  • Alcohol and drug abuse

FOR THE BODY & MIND

In doing yoga we get to notice stress in a different way. The postures (asanas) and breathing techniques can give us the tools to manage stress and strengthen our immune system.  Creating:

  • Increased flexibility
  • More strength
  • Better stamina
  • Improved self-confidence and self worth
  • Regardless of shape or size, if you can breathe, you can do yoga!

WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN CLASS?

A friendly atmosphere, a welcome and some time to be with yourself and space to notice how you feel with no judgement, just the invitation to be gentle and kind to whatever presents itself.

BREATH CONTROL

When we begin to take control of our breath, we begin to take control of our lives. With practice the breath can be a powerful tool for managing stress. Yoga shows us how to take this into our daily lives with a sense of kindness and gentleness.

MEDITATION

When we learn to relax and focus the mind, the mind becomes quiet and we are able to be fully present in the moment.

Some of the benefits of regular practice include reduction of stress, tension and anxiety as well as improved memory, concentration, inner peace and wellbeing.

Asanas (postures) purify and strengthen the body and helps us to focus the mind.

Yoga differs from other forms of exercise in that the main philosophy behind yoga is simply that the mind, body and spirit are all connected and cannot be clearly separated.

RELAXATION

We find ourselves in a world of striving and performing, learning how to relax is a basic element of yoga. Relaxation is the body’s way of recharging, easing physical and mental tension and helping us to cope better with situations that put our mind and body under strain. You are Enough – just as you are.

TIPS FOR CLASS

GENERAL ADVICE

  • Yoga exercises should not be performed soon after eating
  • Allow 3-4 hours after a main meal or 1-2 hours after a snack
  • Please refrain from wearing perfumes / colognes as it is not helpful with breathing practices
  • Water can be taken during the class

PLEASE BRING ON THE DAY

  • Comfortable, loose clothing
  • Blanket for relaxation
  • Yoga mat (I often have a spare if you let me know in advance)

There is no competition in yoga, we only do what feels right for us during the class. And, MOST importantly – yoga is to be enjoyed!

If it can be solved, there’s no need to worry,
and if it cannot be solved, worry is of no use.
